first post! the very beginnings...

i always thought that when the time came, i'd have a blog to document all the little things that i'd want to remember 5, 10, 20 years from now. it's taken me a good few months to really sit down and get this started... so let's hope my baby brain doesn't hinder too much of what i remember about the last couple of weeks!

i am officially at 19 weeks today and still no real visible bump; the same spare tire, i-ate-too-much-at-the-buffet-last-night look that i've been carrying around for the last few weeks. i've gained about 3lbs thus far, which i'm kind of glad about since i've been really eating nothing but junk (albeit at a much smaller portion size than i used to pre-pregnancy).

we found out on mother's day (how apropos, right?) and then was able to get a doctor's appointment within a week of that for "real" confirmation. frankly it's been a real shock to us both since we had been trying for a frustrating couple of months and of course the few weeks that we weren't intentionally trying is when it happens. isn't that just how life likes to kick you in the ass? but i digress...

the first trimester was a pretty horrible/traumatic experience for me. any kind of pungent smell, even oily food that i used to love would make me queasy. i was sustaining on bread and butter and of all things, ham and cheese sandwiches. there was a good two weeks where i would eat, and then proceed to vomit everything i ate. it wasn't pleasant, that's for sure.

now, safely into my second trimester, i'm able to eat anything i desire (and most of the time it's been a lot of junk...) but i still can't put down the same amount of food i used to pre-pregnancy. thinking about it logically, my uterus is probably pushing my internal organs all over the place and my stomach has shrunk... at least that's what i tell myself.

when we went in for our nuchal and saw the baby as a real human, and not just a small blip of nothing, it became all too real and kind of scary. not only that but the kiddo is a real mover; kept twitching and kicking! k thinks because of this that it's a boy.

speaking of the sex, we have our comprehensive anatomy scan next week, which is also when we get to find out what it is (finally!!!!) i've been waiting for this for so long because i've been itching to start buying things... and at least have some kind of color scheme in terms of what i want to put on my registry! plus i'd like to look into things for the baby shower too. nobody every said i was a disorganized one, that's for sure.
